Teenagers face some unique problems in finding employment: they may not have transportation, they may not be old enough or they may not have a schedule that fits the job. So many teens get frustrated in their search. Many of them get easily bored working a fast food restaurant or drug store which is where so many of them wind up. With a little creative thinking though and some focus on what they like to do, cool jobs for teenagers becomes a reality.

1. Check out your academic skills or musical ability. If you are good in math, foreign language, science etc. you can hire yourself out as tutor. Many teachers tutor to earn extra money but if you price yourself a little below them parents who are looking to save a bit of money will seek you out. Also, there are tutoring centers around town such as Kumon Math and Reading that hire bright teenagers to work in the centers. You will broaden your skills and get paid. Also, if you are a good musician considering playing at weddings, birthday parties etc.

2. Baby-sitting – Babysitting is a tried and true way for any responsible teenager to make money (IF you like kids!). There are several things you can do to make your services more valuable. First, you should go take a Red Cross first aid course so that you know how to handle emergencies. You might also want to volunteer at your church if there is a day-care center there. You can pick up a lot of valuable experience that way. Second, you might want to consider teaming up with some like-minded friends. That way your group will be able to say “yes” more often and that will increase the number of calls you get.

3. Lawn or yard care - During the summer you mow lawns, trim hedges and so on. In the fall you rake leaves. In the winter you shovel snow.

4. Baked goods (cookies, cakes etc.) – Many families are too busy to bake their own cookies and cakes these days. However, having fresh-baked goods around the house is nice. Also, a family might need a home-baked cake for a school bake sale or a party. You could provide baked goods for special occasions like these or sell baked goods at local craft or farmers’ markets. Check local health laws as you are starting this sort of activity.

You could also “plant sit.” , if you enjoy gardening. People who are avid gardeners might need someone to care for their plants while they are out of town. .

7. Washing cars for neighbors – You can simply wash cars. The price of car washes has really gone up lately and the do -it-yourself ones take a lot of time. Probably many moms with small children would like to have their cars washed and vacuumed especially.

8. Teaching older people how to use computers or the internet – Many older people are totally affraid of computers. If you understand computers you can help them. You could come to the customer’s home (or they to your home) and you could charge on a half-hourly or hourly basis.

9. Creating Web Sites – If you are artistic and technically minded, there is a great opportunity available right now creating web sites for small businesses. Or try creating your own web site that generates a lot of traffic and make money selling ads on it with adsense.

10. Making and selling something unique - If you are artistic create greeting cards or draw portraits or possibly paint furniture or do murals in bedrooms or homes. If you are crafty you can make things that people can use for teacher or co-worker gifts.

Do you need extra cash? There are actually many different ways to get extra income but you will be most successful with the one suited to your personality. If you like being out in public and interacting with people, these part-time jobs offer flexible schedules and can pay from $8.00 to $12.00 an hour. Pay depends upon where you live and your prior work experience. Product demonstrator, delivery person, hotel desk clerk, bank teller are all legitimate ways to earn extra money.

If you need extra cash though and are unable to leave your home or you just don’t like interacting with the general public here is another option. Consider starting a modest internet business. It is not as hard as you might think.
