Fitness Fad or Trends

Boomer Fitness

Here are five trends for fitness that were described in our local paper. Some of them such as “time efficient fitness” seem perfect for the working woman. Also discussed are “boomer fitness” which is described as an “ageless” approach to exercise. I think that means it will help us hold on to what we’ve got.

Technological Advances –

Expect to see more innovative fitness video games, such as EA Sports Active-2, which, paired with a Kinect sensor for Xbox 360, uses wireless motion tracking to monitor your activity.

Just For Today Poem

New Years Resolutions Pauline Phillips

I have always loved this bit of advice which actually comes from Dear Abby’s mother Pauline Phillips. She adapted this meditation from the original credo of Al-Anon. I read it when it appears in her column at the beginning of the year but then I tend to drift away from remembering what it said.

So I decided this year to put the “Just for Today” poem on my site. I am going to try read it at least once a week and really take the advice to heart. This year my resolutions are all about better mental health and I think the “Just for Today” poem is a good set of guidelines.

Car Rental Consumer Tips

Tips from Heloise

I saw this in Heloise’s column and thought it would be good to post it at this time when so many of you may be renting cars for holiday trips. Here are some car rental consumer tips from Heloise:

When you rent a car, auto experts say to fill the gas tank before you return it. Otherwise, you will have to pay a high per gallon fee. Save money and top off before turning it in.

Because of high gas prices, car renters want more fuel-efficient vehicles. So, make your reservation early to be sure you get the vehicle you want.

Holiday Tipping

Appropriate Holiday Tipping

Holiday tipping can be tricky even in a robust economy. Thirty-one percent of those who opt out of holiday tipping say it is because they don’t know how much to offer, according to a survey by consumer ratings service Angie’s List. Housekeepers, teachers and hairdressers are most likely to get holiday tips. Last year almost 70 percent gave money or gifts to their cleaning people, 60 percent gave something to a teacher, and 50 percent gave an extra tip to their hairdressers, according to a survey conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center. Only 11 percent tipped the garbage collectors.
