Can’t Always Trust The Web or Am I a Boar or a Dog

Well, Boar or Dog?

Chinese New Year approaches, and I am perplexed by the same question that always hits me this time of year. If I were Chinese, would I be a boar or a dog. See I already celebrated my birthday this year. But according the placemat in every Chinese Buffet, my birth year would make me a Boar. However, a very nice Chinese lady that I worked with, told me that since my birthday came before the Chinese New Year, that I was really a Dog.

This makes sense to me. The Chinese New Year doesn’t fall on the same date as ours. So, since my birthday pops up before the celebration, or sometimes almost at the same time, I might be a dog. But maybe the Chinese New Year floats around a bit on our calendar, and in my own birth year, I could have been born after it. Who knows? Maybe I was even a Chinese New Year Baby?

My kids do not care.

I explained the situation to my teen-aged son. He is very good at math and has always had a gift for hair splitting. He looked at me with his best vacant scare. I honestly don’t think he cares! Oh well, I can see big trouble is brewing IN THE WORLD (of warcraft), and he must attend to it. My conversations about foreign horoscopes pale…..

Well, next I hopped over to Yahoo Horoscope. The good Yahoos were aware that I was born under the sign of Aquarius, but that’s not what my problem was. I clicked the link for Chinese Astrology. You can click here to find out what your Chinese Astrology Sign is. ….or can you?

Yahoo! thinks I’m a pig. I wonder what Wiki thinks..or never mind. They let Steven Colbert get away with that elephant thing! I still think it is illogical since I already had my birthday.

Oh, YAHOO – anybody got a resource to tell me what day the Chinese New Year Fell on a day that was lo, those many decades ago?

EUREKA – I FOUND IT!

O.K. apparently the Chinese New Year always begins on the full moon and since our calendar doesn’t work that way, the Chinese New Year Date floats on our holiday. Apparently Chinese New Year can be from late January to early February on Our Calendar. Anyway, if you HOP OVER TO WIKIPEDIA CHINESE NEW YEAR, ALL SECRETS WILL BE REVEALED (that is, if they are correct!).

Anyway the point of this is….in my birth year, I was born slightly after the Chinese New Year, even though my birthday fell a little before it this year. I am, indeed, a pig.
