Diabetic Desserts – Chocolate Brownies
In the past ice cream, cookies, and other sweets were considered off-limits to people with diabetes. In her book, The Everyday Gourmet Diabetes Cookbook, Mary Donkersloot, R.D. explains research has shown consistently shown that common table sugar and other sugars when consumed separately or as part of a meal or snack do not have a greater impact on blood glucose levels than other carbohydrates. Because physicians have a better understanding on the effects of different foods on blood glucose, sweet foods have become an acceptable part of the diabetes meal plan. She recommends diabetics eat sweets in small portions and learn what they do to their blood glucose.

Part Time Jobs For Teens – Volunteer
Summer is coming and all of us working moms are wondering what to do with teens who are not old enough to work but are too old for summer camp. The last thing we want to see is them sitting home all summer plopped in front of the  computer. The last thing we want to hear is “Mom, I boooored.” So what can we do? A newspaper article in our local paper suggested part time volunteer work. This is really a great idea and I can speak from personal experience. My son has volunteered at the public library for the past two years and has loved it. My daughter was 12 when she started volunteering. She volunteered to read to the kids once a week at one of our local Head Start centers. She also really enjoyed her volunteer work and said it helped her not be so bored. There are volunteer opportunities for teens at hospitals, local humane societies and pet rescue organizations. The article in my paper suggested parents approach their local vet and ask about an internship. Find out what your child is interested in and see if there is a related volunteer opportunity.
Tips on Avoiding An Income Tax Audit
According to industry watchdogs IRS audits have more than doubled since 2000. In 2001, only about one in 170 filers were audited, now it is about one in 98. If you make over $100,000.00, are self-employed or receive much of your income in cash your chances are even higher. While there is no way to avoid a random audit there are steps you can take to avoid those red flags that prompt the IRS to want to audit you.
